The House of Representatives has responded to allegations of assault involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh, the member representing Aba North/South Federal Constituency, after a viral video showed him allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver named Stephen Abuwatseya. In the footage, Ikwechegh reportedly threatened the driver, stating that even Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, could not intervene.

In a statement released on Monday evening, the House’s spokesperson, Rotimi Akin Rotimi, Jr., emphasized the seriousness with which the 10th Assembly regards these allegations. The statement highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to high ethical standards and accountability, affirming that they are monitoring the reports and that any behavior undermining these values is a significant concern.
