Mrs. Funmi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Director of Women Empowerment and Legal Aid, made a powerful call for Nigerian women and young girls to take on leadership roles and reject outdated stereotypes. During a State Banquet in Ado Ekiti, held in honor of Ekiti State’s new Senior Advocates as part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-anniversary celebrations, she emphasized that the notion of a woman’s “place in the kitchen” is outdated and urged women to actively participate in society.
In her remarks, Funmi Falana expressed gratitude for being honored by Ekiti State, seeing it as an acknowledgment of her contributions to women’s rights and justice for Nigeria’s oppressed. She highlighted that this recognition serves as a reminder to the youth that success and honor can be achieved with hard work. She encouraged women to recognize their equal value to men, resist marginalization, and aim for the highest levels in their careers.
The event also saw Mrs. Folasade Alli, the eldest daughter of renowned lawyer Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, express her appreciation to the state and Governor Oyebanji for recognizing the contributions of Ekiti’s legal professionals. Oyebanji, who presented the awards, congratulated the honorees for their dedication and contributions to the legal field.
This ceremony marks Ekiti State’s growing recognition of legal excellence, with the state’s Attorney General, Dayo Apata, noting that Ekiti now has over 50 Senior Advocates, a journey that began with Aare Afe Babalola in 1978.
