As Nigerians continue to groan over the recent increase in fuel prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Naija News brings you the latest update on petrol scarcity, fuel price increase and Govt/citizens’ reactions.
We Have No Direct Dealing With You Yet – Dangote Replies IPMAN On Lifting Petrol

The ongoing situation with fuel in Nigeria highlights growing frustrations over fuel scarcity and increasing prices, compounded by disagreements among key industry stakeholders. At the core of the tension is the relationship between the newly inaugurated Dangote Refinery and Nigeria’s petroleum marketers, including the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), who claim they are facing hurdles in acquiring fuel despite reportedly making payments to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). In response, Dangote Refinery has clarified that it has no direct dealings with IPMAN, insisting that there is fuel available and urging marketers to follow due process for transactions.

Nigerians had hoped that the Dangote Refinery would alleviate the burden of high fuel costs, especially given its potential to produce over 30 million liters of fuel daily. However, fuel prices have continued to rise, spurring discontent among citizens who feel caught between governmental policies and corporate disputes.

The governors of Nigeria’s 36 states have expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s reliance on fuel imports despite its oil-producing status. Led by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, they are calling for the repair of Nigeria’s existing refineries and support for local solutions like the Dangote Refinery to reduce the dependence on imported petroleum.

With public expectation for lower fuel costs remaining unmet, pressure mounts on both the government and private stakeholders to stabilize the fuel supply chain and offer more affordable options. This challenge underscores the broader issue of Nigeria’s energy independence and the urgent need for a cohesive policy that prioritizes local refining and better meets the needs of its citizens.
