Martins Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan (VDM), faces court today over charges of impersonating a police officer. The charges were filed after a viral video showed VDM dressed in Nigeria Police Force (NPF) attire, identifying himself as “CSP VeryDarkMan” and referring to himself as Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.” In response, the NPF condemned the unauthorized use of its uniforms and emphasized maintaining the integrity of its symbols.
The FCT Police Command is leading the prosecution and aims to prevent the misuse of official uniforms. The NPF made a public statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, confirming VDM’s court appearance and encouraging the public to stay informed as the case progresses.
VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, noted on X that VDM was detained on Thursday after responding to a police summons, adding that VDM had similarly honored an invitation on Wednesday. Despite the allegations, Adeyanju mentioned that VDM has consistently advocated that “the Nigerian Police are our friends,” even amid public concerns about the police.
