Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, has been granted bail after being arraigned by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on charges of alleged impersonation. The bail, set at N2 million, required him to provide two sureties, each also posting the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, he must surrender his international passports and other identification documents.
This legal action followed the release of a viral video in which he appeared in a police uniform, claiming to be the “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the online division.” The police quickly condemned this portrayal as unauthorized and announced an investigation to determine how he obtained the uniform and the legitimacy of his claims.
In light of the situation, VeryDarkMan apologized to the police, clarifying that his intention was not to impersonate the agency. He emphasized the importance of seeking permission from law enforcement before using anything resembling their uniform, urging the public to consider potential misuse of such representations. His message reflects a cautionary stance, advocating for transparency and permission in interactions involving police imagery.
