Social media personality Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight and detained by immigration officers late on Thursday night while attempting to leave the country.
The recent events involving social media personality Bobrisky have drawn significant public attention. After being detained by immigration officers on a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam, Bobrisky claimed in an Instagram post that he was injured in an altercation and accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of orchestrating his arrest. This incident follows an earlier attempt to leave Nigeria through the Sème border on October 22, further complicating his legal battles.
Bobrisky’s issues started in April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in prison for currency abuse, although reports later claimed he spent only three weeks in Kirikiri Prison before allegedly being transferred under suspicious circumstances. The unconfirmed rumors of a ₦15 million bribe added fuel to the speculation of preferential treatment.
Tensions heightened in September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan leaked an audio recording in which Bobrisky allegedly implicated music artist Falz and his father, lawyer Femi Falana, in an attempt to seek financial assistance for a presidential pardon. The Falanas issued a cease-and-desist letter, labeling the statements as defamatory and requesting a public retraction. Bobrisky, however, denied any involvement in the recording and directed the Falanas to address VeryDarkMan.
This complex web of allegations and legal disputes has triggered intense scrutiny across social media and traditional news outlets, highlighting the challenges of managing public image and legal accountability in the digital age.
