Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been released from detention following his arrest by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme Border. He was apprehended while attempting to leave Nigeria amid an ongoing investigation into alleged bribery involving officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during his previous incarceration for abusing the naira.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison on April 12, 2024, after being convicted of throwing naira banknotes into the air at a social event, a practice known as “spraying,” which is illegal in Nigeria. He served his sentence and was released on August 5, 2024.
Upon his recent release from detention, Bobrisky took to social media on October 29, 2024, to share a new photo and a motivational message:
“Strong women don’t play the victim. They don’t make themselves look pitiful and don’t point fingers. They stand and they deal.”
Despite his release, Bobrisky may face new criminal charges related to allegations of serving his previous jail term in a private apartment and bribing EFCC officials to dismiss money laundering charges against him.
