Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has praised recent steps by President Bola Tinubu to reform the cabinet and adopt economic policies aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s economy. Ndume highlighted several key initiatives:
- Ministerial Overhaul and Cost-Cutting: Ndume approved Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, particularly the establishment of the Ministry of Regional Development to manage regional commissions. He encouraged more cost-cutting measures to address Nigeria’s economic challenges.
- De-dollarisation Policy: Ndume supported Tinubu’s policy to reduce Nigeria’s dependency on the U.S. dollar, especially for trade with countries like China. He suggested that this approach would alleviate pressure on the naira and strengthen the economy.
- Call for National Economic Conference: Ndume urged Tinubu to hold an economic summit, involving Nigerian economists and experts like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Akinwumi Adesina, to offer independent solutions outside of the IMF and World Bank’s influence.
- Military Reinforcement: Ndume commended Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the Air Force by acquiring new planes and helicopters, which he said would support ground forces in fighting insurgents. He also called for additional recruitment and resources for Nigeria’s Armed Forces and security agencies.
These moves reflect Ndume’s support for Tinubu’s strategies aimed at tackling economic and security issues in Nigeria, with a focus on self-reliance and regional development.
