Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive, has left Nigeria after being detained for eight months. His release comes after the Nigerian government dropped charges against him on health grounds and following diplomatic pressure. The charges were initially filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), but the government reconsidered the case, citing the involvement of Binance Holdings Limited and broader international concerns.
The EFCC’s prosecutor explained that the government had reviewed the situation, considering the impact of Binance Holdings in the case and various diplomatic factors. As a result, the state discontinued the case against Gambaryan, leading to his release from Kuje prison on Wednesday night.
Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen, returned to his family after his release. His wife, Yuki Gambaryan, expressed relief and gratitude for the support received, particularly from the U.S. government, during this challenging period. She acknowledged the toll the ordeal had taken on her husband’s health but was hopeful about focusing on his recovery and reuniting as a family.
