The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has responded to allegations regarding the arrest and unlawful detention of a minor by officers from the Kubwa Police Division, clarifying that these reports are inaccurate. According to a statement from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police were acting in accordance with a court order and followed legal procedures.
The incident, which occurred on October 16, 2024, involved a court order issued by the Senior Magistrate Court in Dutse Alhaji to deliver a court notice to a residence in Kubwa. During this process, court personnel were allegedly assaulted by Deborah Fornchor, leading to a warrant for her arrest. The police executed the court’s warrant, apprehended Fornchor, and handed her over to the court authorities, where she remains in custody pending further legal action.
The FCT Police reiterated that all actions were legally sanctioned and emphasized their commitment to maintaining public safety in Abuja. Additionally, they encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity and provided emergency contact numbers for assistance. Concerns about police conduct can also be directed to the Police Complaint Bureau or the Complaint Response Unit.
