An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the Lagos State Police Command who was killed in Agege during a confrontation with commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders). The police had responded to a distress call about an accident where a truck had knocked down an Okada rider. Unfortunately, the rider lost his life, which triggered anger among the other motorcyclists at the scene.
The situation escalated when the motorcyclists demanded that the truck involved in the accident be set on fire, and they attacked the police team trying to evacuate the truck. In the chaos, the ASP suffered a fatal head injury and died on the spot. The truck driver managed to escape.
Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the event, condemning it as a senseless act of violence. Five suspects have been arrested, and the police are continuing the search for others involved in the attack.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions between law enforcement and Okada riders in Lagos, which have often resulted in confrontations.
