Nigeria has indeed faced recurring issues with its power grid, and this latest collapse on October 14, 2024, is part of a pattern that has plagued the country’s electricity supply system. The collapse, which occurred around 7:00 p.m., led to a complete power outage, with all 22 generation companies (GenCos) going offline. Many cities, especially in the South-east region, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states, have been plunged into darkness as a result.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has confirmed the situation, and while the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet issued a statement, it is expected that the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo will provide further updates on efforts to restore power.
