Senator Ali Ndume has raised concerns about the hardships facing Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing harmful policies and reforms that are exacerbating inflation and making basic necessities unaffordable. He claims certain individuals within the government are undermining Tinubu’s leadership by promoting actions that inflict suffering on the population, which could eventually be blamed on the president.
In his statement, Senator Ali Ndume expressed concern over certain individuals he referred to as “fifth columnists” who, according to him, are working with saboteurs to hinder President Tinubu’s administration from achieving its goals. Ndume accused these individuals of pushing for harsh reforms that are making life difficult for Nigerians, instead of advocating for policies aimed at stabilizing inflation and improving the exchange rate. He warned that these misguided efforts could alienate the public from Tinubu’s administration.
Despite the challenges, Ndume acknowledged President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the country’s situation. He urged the president to remain mindful of the struggles that everyday Nigerians are facing due to inflation and the rising costs of essential goods and services, calling for more practical and people-oriented policies.
Highlighting the severe impact on the poorest Nigerians, Ndume stressed the urgent need for the administration to consider the financial strain on struggling families.
“I believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu genuinely wants to improve Nigeria and the lives of its citizens. I know this because of what he stands for. However, some of his advisers may not have the best interests of the people at heart and are giving him misguided advice.
“I urge him to resist these negative influences that seek to pit the people against his administration. The hardship inflicted by these advisers is becoming unbearable. I’m currently in Borno, and I can attest to the suffering, hunger, frustration, and anger among the people,” Ndume remarked.
Currently in Borno, Ndume described the visible suffering, hunger, and frustration he has observed among his constituents.
“In Borno State, many families can’t afford to eat. The relentless price increases have created unimaginable hardship. Farmers struggle to transport their products due to exorbitant transportation costs. Those who can still sell their goods raise prices to cover these expenses, making food unaffordable for many. Travel has become prohibitively expensive; for example, the cost of traveling by road from Abuja to Maiduguri is astronomical. How can our people afford this?
“I know that President Tinubu means well for Nigerians, and he should not allow a few misguided advisers to ruin this country. I implore him to take action before it’s too late. Testing the patience of Nigerians is unwise, and that is precisely what these bad advisers are doing.”
He continued, “I’m appealing to him to resist these bad people who want to pitch the people against his administration. The hardship these people are inflicting on Nigerians is becoming unbearable. I’m currently in Borno, and I know what I’m talking about. People are really suffering, hungry, frustrated, and angry.”
“Those who manage to transport goods pass the costs onto consumers, making food items too expensive. People can’t even afford to travel anymore. For instance, traveling by road from Abuja to Maiduguri is now a fortune. How many people can afford that?”
Ndume emphasized that Tinubu has good intentions for Nigerians but must not allow a few bad advisers to damage the country’s stability. “That’s why I’m begging him to do something before it is too late. It is not good to test the patience of Nigerians, and that’s exactly what these bad advisers are doing,” he said.
Ndume concluded with a call for immediate action from the President upon his return to the country to relieve Nigerians from the mounting economic pressure.
“Upon the President’s return to Nigeria, I urge him to urgently address these pressing issues. The purchasing power of Nigerians is severely weakened, and they cannot afford the burdens imposed by those who wish to harm the state,” he concluded.
