The Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Saidu Yusuf, recently highlighted the agency’s commitment to enhancing border control and combating smuggling through technological advancements. During a visit to the Ogun Area II Command in Abeokuta, Yusuf praised the command for generating over ₦20 billion in revenue for the Federal Government between January and August, a significant increase from ₦14 billion in the same period last year.
Yusuf emphasized the ongoing efforts to utilize technology to improve border security and patrols, mentioning that the Customs Service is automating its operations across various stations, including the border. He pointed out that the recent acquisition of an aircraft for border patrol demonstrates the agency’s focus on modernizing its operations.
He warned potential smugglers, especially those considering bringing in arms or illegal drugs, to reconsider their actions, as the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller General Bashir Adeniyi, is effectively collaborating with other security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and enforcement.
In his address, Comptroller Olusola Alade of the Ogun Area II Command expressed gratitude for the commendation and requested additional accommodations for officers and improvements to the command’s medical clinic.
