Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, made a strong statement characterizing Rivers State as the “capital of betrayals.” According to Amaechi, many politicians in the state rose to prominence through his influence, suggesting that some of them may have turned their backs on him. His remark seems to reflect disappointment with how certain political figures in the state have acted toward him after benefiting from his support. This statement was made in a video that surfaced online recently.

Amaechi’s influence in Rivers State politics has been substantial, having served as governor from 2007 to 2015 and later taking a key role on the national stage as Minister of Transportation under President Buhari’s administration. His remarks could hint at ongoing political tensions within the state.

Amaechi’s statement seems to reflect his position on distancing himself from political violence and thuggery. By emphasizing that he doesn’t sponsor thugs or engage in violence, he’s conveying a moral and religious reasoning for his stance. His mention of wanting to make heaven suggests that he prioritizes his spiritual beliefs and accountability to God over political gains or tactics that might involve harm to others.

His references to being a central figure in the political landscape of Rivers State and how many politicians “passed through” him indicate his influence and experience in local politics. He highlights a sense of betrayal by politicians from the state and seems to feel disillusioned by their actions.

Amaechi also explained that he doesn’t sponsor thuggery because he wants to make heaven.

According to Amaechi: “Name one politician in Port Harcourt that didn’t pass through me, they can’t stand hunger.

“Rivers State has become the capital of betrayals, just name one politician who didn’t pass through me.

“You will not see me in any political meeting planning for thugs, you will not see me say this money is for thugs; I will not.

“My Priest tells me that anybody who dies in the course of that money, you will be held accountable; the society may not hold you accountable or send you to prison but God will not allow you into heaven because he will hold you accountable. I don’t want to miss heaven.”
